About Me

Hi, I'm Jack. I'm currently in my 4th year at Heriot-Watt University studying MEng Electrical and Electronic Engineering. Alongside my studies I also work part-time at Tesco as a Checkout Operator and Fresh Foods Replenishment.

Outside of my work/studies I have keen interests in electronics, car maintenance, music, and I am currently teaching myself to play guitar.

Projects:

For this project I was given a schematic and component values for a basic FM radio. This schematic was used to design the PCB layout of the radio circuit using Proteus PCB Design. The designed PCB was manufactured and then I soldered and assembled all components.

For this project, I worked as part of a team to design and build an autonomous robot that would follow a set path and scan shelves for stock. My responsibilities for this project were electronics design, arduino microcontroller programming, testing, troubleshooting, and technical report writing.

This work proposes development of a high frequency (HF) RFID reader system for a medical smart contact lens. The reader is required to transfer necessary power to the contact lens and also transfer data. The circuit of the reader must fit within the frame of a pair of glasses. In this project, I am expected to design the HF TX antenna coil in 13.56 MHz frequency to be located at the rim of the eye glass. This project involves electronics system design, basic RF antenna design (MATLAB/Maxwell 3D), PCB design (Altium Designer), and embedded systems.
